If you just want to know
how to take care of your Trex decking go straight to Care
& Cleaning For Trex Look for decks, then maintenance.
Cedar surfaces need
proper care to last a long time. Unless you have bottomless pockets and or lots
of time on your hands we don’t highly recommend you stain your deck. Your
railing and trim yes but think twice before jumping at the deck surface. Long
term maintenance over several years can take a major effort to keep up. Yes it
can be done but you have to have the commitment to keep it up properly and with
the best products. High quality stains and preservatives are worth the extra
dollar spent for a product that will do a better job and last longer. Be picky
what you use. Most so called clear preservatives are waxed based and really
aren’t preservatives at all, they merely bead up the water like wax does on
your car. We find the best product out there is “TWP 100”. It has the
ingredients you need for the best performance available. You can find it at http://ewoodcare.com
If you want to get someone else to care for your deck or want more ideas on how
to really care for a wood deck yourself go see Mr. Painterman at http://www.painterman.com
One thing to keep in mind with all of these products is that pressure washers
can be great to use for cleaning. Use nozzles that fan out and don’t use real
high pressures. This can do damage to the surfaces. For basic cleaning of cedar
decks scrubbing with a Bio-Wash product can be a great non toxic way to go.
